The people of God express a commitment to Christ through practical Stewardship.
Each member is encouraged to become a steward of the parish. With the priest's and laity's guidance each one is taught
to pray and seek out ways to apply their time, talents, and wealth for building up of the Body of Christ.
A. number of ministries now actively function while the Lord guides us into new forms of service.
The Parish Council consists of 9 members elected by the parish. Together with the priest, they meet monthly to plan and
apply the decisions of the parish in community, charity, and financial matters. Decisions are regularly reached
according to the principle of unanimous agreement.
The faithful worship communally, led by the choir director. Practices are scheduled on an as-needed basis to prepare
for the upcoming liturgical season or special occasions.
Subdeacons and Acolytes
Together, the Subdeacons and Acolytes assist the Priest and Deacons in liturgical worship, participate in
processions, and assist at the time of Holy Communion.
Readers build up the faithful by reading the Holy Scriptures during worship. With the assistance of parishioners,
the ecclesiarch weekly prepares the music for Liturgy. The youth read the Scriptures at seasonal feasts.
Doorkeepers welcome both visitors and the faithful into worship and for fellowship. They direct the faithful during
veneration of the Gospel and at Holy Communion.
Church School is scheduled on two Saturdays of the month from September to May. Lessons occur from 10:00 AM to 12:00
noon under the care of nine teachers. Students from ages 4-14 are placed into age-appropriate groupings to meet their
diverse learning styles. Substitute teachers are on call when needed.
Adult Education Council
Under the priest's guidance this group plans and implements an annual Spring retreat, Spring and Fall teachings, and
other adult instruction.
St. Herman Orthodox Sobor acts as a depot for the Edmonton Food Bank. Members receive phone orders on Thursdays
from 6:00-7:00 PM and distrubute the food hampers on Friday at 6:00-6:30 PM.
The Hospitalers facilitate the common work of parish celebrations, seasonal social gatherings, and the billeting of
overnight guests and visitors.
Adults who have enrolled in the Catechumenate are instructed in the faith by their sponsors and Catechists under the
leadership of the Priest.
